Well Kiddies, it seems my “feeling good” spell couldn’t last

Mamma has noticed for the last week or so that I’ve been eating less and less of my salads, but overall I was still feeling perky and doing well. On
Thursday Mamma asked Dr Deb to test my urine for a bladder infection. She was gonna be going away again for a few weeks so my surgical vet has taken over my case till she gets back. So he did the testing and sure enough I’ve got an overgrowth of bacteria and white and red blood cells so no wonder I’m not been feelin so super over the last few days.

Today Mamma talked to the vet and they wanted to research some other meds seems I never do very well on Baytril, but he said there are not too many options so we were gonna wait until Monday to start me on meds.

Well I had to have a butt bath today and over all Mamma could see I was cranky and feeling unsettled and I started not wanting my Slippery Elm mash again so I started hiding my face in my pet bed and not coming out til Mamma went away with the syringe. So she decided not to wait and to start me on the Baytril today anyway. she is hopin that this time might not be as bad as other times seems I’m on this Slippery Elm diet, it helps to coat my tum so I won’t get as much irritation. But I got to make sure I don’t have that within two hours of eating my S.E. mash cause it will impair the absorbtion of the meds.  So I got my first dose at 5 pm, I guess it will take a day or so til I feel better.

I think I’ll just hang on on the couch and hunker down into my pet bed under my pink blankie and snooze inbetween face rubs.

Oh well, its just a little infection, I know I’ll feel better again and get back out to tending that garden! xox T

OMG, two minutes before Mamma was loading me up for the vet that’s when it started, cecal all over the place. I’ve passed 4 huge loads since 2pm LOL!! hehe I love to get Mamma worried but its all for the good! OK this is what we have learned!!

The pro and pre biotics that are in my Fibreplex and in my own CC mix are not naturally found in the bunny gut or cecum, this is why treating with these is so controversial. also when we eat these things it gets killed off by the PH levels in our tums, so…. Its a crap shoot wheather I am getting any benefit from them, although Mamma insists the Fibreplex stuff is so awesome cause of the extra fibre I am not getting in my diet.

also whether I am getting enough nutrients through just my food I don’t know for sure, you’d think so but what is more worrisome to Mamma is the proper natural bacteria levels in my gut.

Last summer is when I started all this not eating crap for weeks on end, always after the antibiotics and although I did rebound somewhat last fall, this year I just keep loosing more and more desire to eat. So Mamma thinks my natural levels need to be re-established, obviously the fibreplex isn’t doing it for me yet.

So through all this Mamma not seeing any cecals from me has made her really think and explore some stuff on the net and she finally found this great article http://www.hrschicago.org/gitractfr.html So the theory is that healthy cecals from a healthy donor can be ingested to re-establish the healthy bacteria in the gut, but they MUST be ingested whole, if they are broken then the bacteria gets killed of in our tums in the first bit its in there, the natural mucus coating to the little globs is what protects it from this. Mamma noticed when buns eat theirs its very daintily and they just sort of mouth and swallow it whole!! So in conclusion Mamma has wondered if my whacked out bacteria in my gut form all the antibiotics over the last several month may be exactly why I am not eating…

Mamma discussed all this thinkin with Deb and she says it makes such total sense and its so natural and simple in theory it just might be what is needed. Mamma sent an email to Dana Krempel so we’ll see what she says about this as well. but Mamma really thinks that is it!

Now to get cecal from Gracie!! Deb says to be careful G doesn’t get mad and eat the diaper cause then we’ll have more problems and she was also a bit cautious if G has E.C or not and then me getting reinfected. But to get her tested and wait for the results would be weeks yet, Mamma thinks G is healthy she has never been sick so she thinks its worth the risk, seems I’m already sickly what do we have to loose!!?

Oh and Deb thought maybe it was the antibiotics that was why I stopped making the cecals, ti was right after my needle I stopped making any.

I want to thank all the buns for their input and advice, Mamma feels so much better about it then she did this morning. she thinks this whole no cecals thing is what actually has helped her figure out the bigger picture. Its so weird how the answers to problems seem to come to her like that!! I really think we’re on to something!!

OH BTW, DAddy has made me a little skateboard and now I am zooming so fast its not funny!! Mamma says I might need a helmet now. I’ll try to get some photos for yous!! and of course of Gracie in her diaper, I hope she doesn’t fight it or she’ll have to wear a cone too!! She is so gonna hate me     xox T
