Fall Virtue

Fall Virtue

Artist Notes on this Piece

To date this is my favourite piece. I suppose at some time a new favourite will reveal it self. I painted this as an exploration of orange energy. I have always been a blue moody type of person and have never really liked orange. Orange is a joyous energy of abundance  that I desired to integrate into my own spiritual energy. After painting this lady I kept wondering who or what she was. An Angel or a Goddess I was not quite sure. I have settled on a Virtue which is angel from within the many ranks of angel beings. Virtues being most responsible for the processes of earth and nature. In my life I have had the need to come to terms with the natural cycle of life, it’s ups and downs and its natural way of re growth after destruction. I am  now choosing to see possibility in all phases, even loss and death

The Road Home

                                 Artist Notes on this Piece

This painting is a special one for me being one of my favourites. It was a whim one day to do a landscape. I had tried one a few years ago , needless to say I painted over it. I thought I’d never try again as I hate failure. Well I had recently viewed  “The Secret” and go this idea of painting a scene of where I wanted to live.

It was not my intention to create art for anyone but my own subconscious indulgence. I have dreamt of having this view from Island View Drive near Big Bay Ontario  from my own home ever since I have moved to this area in 1989. So here it is on canvas and to my dismay it is art. I ended up selling it even before it was dry.  Someday I’ll try again to capture my hearts desire. My best works of art come from my attempt to manifest on canvas my desired direction in life or  my own personal growth and influence.

Holland Revisited

Artist Notes on this Piece

This painting was a re-exploration of a piece that I had done in college which has been sold.  My aim in this piece was to push the boundaries of colour complimentary. I wanted the tulips to have an almost electric feel, as if they were emitting their own light and energy. There had been some arguing in the early stages of creating this painting with the owner of it’s earlier version. At one point I became so angry I was in the process of throwing it out my back door so I could drive over it with my car. I’m generally not that  dramatic, but I lost it when someone tried to dictate my creation. No one would assume that Van Gough had only painted one sunflower in his entire career. I do love the exploration of the field of perspective and will continue to delve deeper.

This original painting is now in  a private collection in California. Artist Cards and Prints are available for purchase at my shop aloradesigns.etsy.com

Tribute to Hughes

 Artist Notes on this Piece

It had been about 11 years since I had painted. I was watching  the TV program Monarch of the Glen, and I caught a glimpse of “Stars of Heaven” by E.C. Hughes. I was in the process of grieving as both my parents had just died a few months before and just seeing his image almost brought me to tears. It was that amazing image that inspired me to paint again. I created several pieces and then researched Stars of Heaven. This is my tribute to his beautiful work in attempt to capture that moment when I found my lost spirit simply within the power of an image.

Artist Notes on this Piece

This image is my expression of gratitude to every Goddess, those within us and those of fabled creations. In recent years I have made the exercise of nurturing my sacred centers the chakras. I often use flower images in my minds eye to align these chakra energies. I will often use my art as a medium of bringing to the surface my spiritual thoughts and practices. Sometimes these ideas are only a process to understand and other  times it is process for growth.

Artist Notes on this Piece

This painting was a combination of a love of a photo taken by my husband and the desire to take on the challenge of yellow. I was told by an art professional  that yellow as a colour theme of it’s own is often not successful. So I had to see for  myself. Although there is some green, orange and violet, this is pretty much yellow.  In this piece I especially love the texture that I created in the background petals. In most of my art, I combine texture and smooth strokes.  I’m attracted to opposites of light and dark, the opposite of colour and the vibration that can result and finally the opposites of texture and liquidity.  Oil paints allows     for all that  while at the same time I am enamoured with the smell and motion of the paint as it is applied over the canvas. It is a full body sensory experience on my end

Artist Notes on this Piece

This painting was also a re-examination of an earlier piece from college “Exploring Red” now in a private collection.  I love the contrast of  realism in this one. The petals have a lovely velvety painterly quality to them, where as the stamens of the poppy are rich and vivid in their form.
